Saturday, February 23, the Gjilan Region kicked off the beginning of the national 2013 English Teacher Professional Development Program implemented collaboratively between KETNET and the Ministry of Education!
After the Gjilan Regional Team completed ten intense days of rallying teachers, visiting directors and arranging details, the accredited English Teacher Professional Development Program went off without a hitch! The joint venture of the Kosova English Teacher’s Network (KETNET), Kosovo Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the US Department of State-funded English Language Program was held on the 23rd and 24th of February, at the Didactic Center in Gjilan.
Two days filled with six active sessions for English Teachers, designed by University of Prishtina Professor, Blerta Mustafa and English Language Fellow, Stephanie Drotos, targeted MEST quality improvement areas of Culture of Learning, Quality Teaching and Learning processes and Professionalism of Teachers. Sessions lasted for two days: Saturday from 9:30 am -3:30pm and Sunday from 9:30 am- 3:30 pm. Topics included in these sessions were The New Curriculum Framework, Planning for a Quality English Program, Peer Classroom Observation, Lesson Planning for Positive Outcomes, and Alignment of Assessment & Curriculum. Leading the sessions were Dr. Stephanie Drotos who holds a PhD in Education from Ohio State University and Blerta Mustafa, who is finalizing her PhD from Reading University in England and is an expert in second language writing acquisition. The 56 teachers that attended the two day training will receive their participation certificates at the annual KETNET conference.
Seventeen School Directors attended the first session on Saturday together with their teachers. Snacks and coffee were served during breaks as well as lunch.

The ETPDP Team will move on to Mitrovica to begin preparing for their workshop to be held on April 6-7.
